Movie: Best In Show
This movie really should have been included in my Top 10 Comedies, but it had to settle for just an honorable mention. The acting from all the outrageous characters made this Mockumentary a joy to watch, but there is one scene where Fred Willard delivered a hilarious performance with his long-suffering straight-man Trevor Beckwith (Jim Piddock).
Best in Show was written and directed by Christopher Guest, who also played Harlan Pepper, the owner of the loveable bloodhound in the movie. Every performer and every scene in this movie were memorable, but the tandem of Buck and Trevor, doing commentary at the snooty dog show, literally stole the show.
Fred Willard’s off-color remarks and one-liners were devastating, but it was Jim Piddock’s subtle furtive looks and exasperation, while trying to maintain the dignity of the commentary that made this scene glorious.
“Now tell me, which one of these dogs would you want to have as your wide receiver on your football team?” –Buck
” I don’t know any dogs who play football” -Trevor
