Movie: Pulp Fiction
“Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness, for he is truly his brother’s keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy My brothers.“ -Ezekiel 25:17
There are movies, Pulp Fiction is no exception, that are just loaded with talented actors and great dialogue. There are delicious times when a certain actor just takes things way over the top and totally blisters a scene with his or her performance. Samuel L. Jackson did just that in the apartment scene.
After a hilarious exchange about foot massages outside the apartment, when Vince and Jules entered the apartment, Jules took total control. Few actors in fewer scenes can deliver absolute perfection, but Samuel Jackson did so in this unforgettable scene.
In spite of the “Big brain on Brett”, Brett is terrified, trolled and totally destroyed in this exchange:
- “[Jules shoots the man on the couch] I’m sorry, did I break your concentration? I didn’t mean to do that. Please, continue, you were saying something about best intentions. What’s the matter? Oh, you were finished! Well, allow me to retort. What does Marsellus Wallace look like? -Jules
- “What?” -Brett
- “What country are you from?”-Jules
- “What? What? Wha– -Brent
- “What ain’t no country I’ve ever heard of. Do they speak English in What?” -Jules
- “What?” -Brett
- “Say What again, Say what again, I dare you, I double dare you motherfucker, say what one more Goddamn time!“
Of course, he does and of course Jules blows him away with not only his words but his gun as well. There is no question in my mind that no other actor in the universe could have pulled this scene off but Samuel L. Jackson.
